China and WIPO Celebrate 50 Years of Cooperation in Geneva

The flagship events of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) marking the China-WIPO 50th anniversary of cooperation were held in Geneva on the night of July 6, honored by the presence of Zhang Jianchun, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), Chen Xu, Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland, Xie Dong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, representatives from Beijing, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Macao Special Administrative Region, WIPO Director General Daren Tang and its Sector Leads, Tatiana Molcean, Chair of the 64th WIPO Assemblies and representatives from the member states attending the Assemblies.

Shen said that the year 1973 when the Chinese government sent its first delegation to Geneva for a WIPO meeting paved the way for the bilateral cooperation. In the past 50 years, the China-WIPO cooperation has been advanced so far and led to great achievements. Recently, Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to a commemorative event marking the 50th anniversary of cooperation between China and the WIPO, Premier Li Qiang met with WIPO Director General Daren Tang and Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang delivered a speech at the commemorative event, which emphatically advocated the cooperation between China and the WIPO. In the future, China will continue to deeply participate in WIPO's multilateral issues, and work together to make the global IP governance system fairer and more equitable.

Tang said that during the past 50 years, the Chinese IP system has made a leapfrog growth. The WIPO highly praises China's achievements in the innovation and IP field and is willing to strengthen cooperation with China continuously to advance the construction and development of the global IP ecosystem.

Accompanying activities included a photo show presenting the historic moments of the 50 years, a ceremony for the Global Book Service of Accessible Books Consortium (ABC) to grant entry to Chinese entities, presentations of traditional Chinese culture, relevant videos and innovative products, all of which have made the world take a close look at China's achievements in innovation and IPR protection.(Translated from Xinhua)
